[Harp-L] thanks for the kind words

many thanks to my friends for their kind words about me.
allow me to add a little perspective.

i'm really glad that people are enjoying the recordings
on the archive (most of which are not mine). i do this
stuff because i like to, and i like to contribute in some
way. if i could play smokin' hot shows like rob or dennis
or jason, i would. but i can't. yet.

if i had the wealth of harp knowledge that others have on this
list, i'd help educate the rest of us. but i don't. what i can
do is get shows up on the archive, and bug fans and tapers i know
from other lists to go to shows, and stuff like that. so i do.

i love live music, and the fact that artists are willing to share
their gifts with us. i grew up on live music (dead, tuna, etc),
and have been involved in trading since the mid 70's *. many people
have done kind things for me over the years. my first "trade" was
from a guy named eric simon, who didn't know me from Adam, but went
out of his way to stop by my college dorm on his way to new york and
give me a half dozen dead tapes, after answering an ad i'd put in Relix.
it was always part of the culture to give something back.

truth be told, i get way more out of all this than i put into it.

* my own personal contribution to Net culture was the invention of
the tape tree, the de facto standard means of distributing live
music for the decade or so before broadband became widespread.
